Gerald McDonald

An
ERP system ideally suited to Production and Manufacturing !
As a major player in the Food Ingredients industry, Gerald McDonald were increasingly experiencing the limitations of their existing business management system. Having used Tetra, a Unix-based command line system for many years, they embarked on the search for a modern windows-based fully integrated ERP solution. Finding that de Facto S5 met all their requirements and more, the new system was implemented in 2002.

Quality
Control Management System
de Facto S5's Quality Control Management system was developed in conjunction with Gerald McDonald, and has replaced their previous stand-alone Laboratory Management System. Gerald McDonald currently run more than 300 quality tests on their products and groups of products. These tests are set to run at varying times, for example on goods receipt, at production, on sales, and also periodic tests whilst goods are held in stock. The system fully enables QC release and positive release. The ability to override quality allows goods to be reassigned for other usage. S5's QC management system enables Gerald McDonald to maintain the extremely high quality standards necessary for their industry. The benefits of integration are readily apparent where S5 can produce Certificates of Analysis to be sent out with despatched goods, rather than necessitating a Photo Lab report.
Efficient
Product Configuration
de Facto S5's Product Wizard ensures the consistent configuration of products, including product codes, descriptions and Units of Measure tables. The system can then be set up to allow the users to choose Units of Measure from pre-defined constants. As such, variations in spelling, capitalization and usage of spaces which creep in from user to user are avoided, thus improving system consistency, integrity and completeness.
Powerful
Product Traceability
The combination of de Facto S5's Traceability options and Tracking Groups features provides unrivalled functionality for managing product identity and movement. Detailed recording of necessary data is enabled throughout the lifetime of a unit, from loading onto vessels, receipt, storage, production, through to despatch and delivery. Establishing the 'what', 'where' and 'when' is easy in S5, as are such processes as Warehouse Management and Picking. Picking itself can be optimised for such things as stock rotation, handling efficiency, and most importantly, end customer suitability.
Extensive
Contract Trading Features
A number of de Facto S5's key Contract Trading facilities lie at the heart of Gerald McDonald's business operations. S5's Contract and Call-Off facilities enable them to efficiently manage the recording of long term contract agreements with suppliers, and to call in containers of product as required.
de Facto S5's Levels and Availability reporting allows Gerald McDonald to view the long / short position of product availability over various time frames, and to effect the short-term requirements for efficient stock control and rotation.
Contract Terms facilities enables them to define separate contract terms for purchases via appropriate Incoterms. S5 not only establishes the Incoterms, but also records and calculates an unlimited number of Landed Cost factors which go with them, allowing the accurate apportionment of costs.
Gerald McDonald use S5's Production module to control all their production processes, including Spice Milling, Mixing and Wet Blending. Their manufacturing processes involve optimum lot selection for specific batch characteristics, and full production costing, including manufacturing cost absorption. Gerald McDonald are well known in the food ingredients industry, and their utilisation of de Facto S5 highlights many of the key features necessary for today's manufacturers, processors and traders.
